George Belden Utter, age 85, of Douglassville, PA, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at Complete Care Berkshire in Reading, PA. Born October 16, 1940, in Rochester, NY, George later settled in East Greenbush, NY, where he met his wife Julie and raised their family before moving to Douglassville in 1993.
George had a long career in construction, working for August Bohl Contracting, FJ Zeronda, and the Town of East Greenbush, and contributed to projects such as the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Generating Station and Empire State Plaza. He was a proud member of the International Operating Engineers Union Local 158 District 545. In Douglassville, he continued as a surveyor at Spotts, Stevens and McCoy and, during his retirement years, worked part-time at Express Data Systems.
He most enjoyed his daily neighborhood walk, caring for his property and cars, attending grandchildren’s sporting events, family poker games, tending to pet birds, and daily visits to the coffee shop with Julie. George was an Eagles and Phillies fan and attended many Reading Fightin Phils games.
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julie; his three children, George (Karen) Utter, Jr. of Cherry Hill, NJ, Chris (Denise) Utter of East Greenbush, NY, and Kristy (Mark) Bankert of Chambersburg, PA; and six grandchildren, Reilly, Benjamin, Juliana, Isabela, Andrew, and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jane, and brother, Jack Utter.
