Irene Marie (Martienssen) Hughes

Irene Marie (Martienssen) Hughes,75, of Birdsboro, PA, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Reading Hospital. Born in Weatherly, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and the late Phyllis (Graaf) Martienssen. She was the loving wife of Terence F. Hughes, III.

Irene was a schoolteacher for the Owen J. Roberts School District at North Coventry Elementary for 34 years. She was a Mary Kay Consultant and was an EMT. She was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Aux. and Cedarville United Methodist Church as a member of the church choir. Irene loved her craftwork, Elvis, Disney, but most of all she loved being a grandmother.

In addition to her husband, Irene is survived by her daughter: Samantha Gibbs, wife of Tyler; son: Terence F. “Buddy” Hughes, IV; brother: Charles Martienssen; and grandson Landon.

Services will be determined at the convenience of the family.
