Ruth S. (Davidheiser) Bitting

Ruth S. (Davidheiser) Bitting, 89, of Kulptown, PA, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, while a resident at Berks Heim. Born in Kulptown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel W. Davidheiser, Sr. and the late Elizabeth (Keinard) Hohl. She was the widow of Garvin R. Bitting.

Ruth’s greatest joy was her family, her daughters as well as her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. The family reunion, the holiday get togethers, were always a source of lots of laughs and great food. She loved running into family members when out shopping, as they would stop and have catch-up conversations. She always talked about these encounters; they made her so happy!

She and her sisters remained close all of her life and they did quite a bit of traveling around, bus trips, car trips, a cruise or two. They also started a decades long Scrabble Girls club. Ruth, Mary and Ann were core members, with several alternates throughout the years, including Claire Davidheiser, Susie McCalicher, and Sandy Miller. This was pro-level, cutthroat, gamesmanship, each vying for the coveted ‘Best Damn Scrabble Player of the Week’ trophy cup.

Ruth and Garvin also traveled to many places with Garvin’s brother Lloyd, and his wife Ida. They had a big RV and they would load up their dog, Mom’s dog/or cat and off they went. Branson, Dollywood, many southern plantations. She was always grateful for those travel opportunities and enjoyed them very much.

She was a staunch bingo player and dedicated casino goer. She was expert on those machines, showing me the ropes on times I accompanied her to the casino. She didn’t play big, but that didn’t matter, it was playing the game and a day out!

Ruth is survived by her 2 daughters: Kim D. Angstadt, partner of Geoffrey Jackson and Beth A. Angstadt, partner of Tim Walker.

Ruth was predeceased by her daughter, Debra Gazdik and siblings: Samuel, Edward, Lester, Harry, David, Raymond, Charles “Skip”, Clarence and Lillie.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1337 Geigertown Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508. A Visitation is from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, the Service will be held 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service. Burial will be in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery at a later date.
